Meet Dr. Goshtasby

Certified by the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Parviz Hiroshi Goshtasby is a highly skilled and experienced surgeon specializing in plastic, reconstructive, and hand surgery at his private practice in Newport Beach, California. His office is conveniently located in the state-of-the-art Newport Lido Medical Center across from Hoag Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Goshtasby underwent 17 years of rigorous training to fine-tune his skills as a proficient and accomplished physician. His quest for knowledge began at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, where he was on the Dean's List for academic excellence and was a member of several honor societies. After excelling in his studies at Northwestern University, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biochemistry, he moved to Boston, MA to study and receive his medical degree from the prestigious Tufts University School of Medicine, where he served as Class President.

Upon graduating from medical school, Dr. Goshtasby underwent 5 years of arduous and demanding residency training in General Surgery that he completed at York Hospital, affiliated with Pennsylvania State University in York, PA. Dr. Goshtasby developed a solid foundation in surgical technique and critical patient care as he rotated on all the surgical specialties and covered in-house trauma calls for all 5 years, serving as Chief Resident during his final year.

To further specialize his training, Dr. Goshtasby went on to Buffalo, NY to complete a fellowship in Hand Surgery at the Hand Center of Western New York, affiliated with SUNY Buffalo. Finally, Dr. Goshtasby spent 3 more years of focused training in the fully-accredited and specialized Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship at Wright State University in Dayton, OH, serving as Chief Resident during his final year. Dr. Goshtasby has performed several thousand procedures during his 9 years of post-graduate residency and fellowship training, including nearly two thousand procedures just during his Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery training. Dr. Goshtasby is Board-certified by the American Board of Surgery.

Throughout his surgical training and practice experience, Dr. Goshtasby's work has appeared in numerous national and international publications and presentations discussing advances in the field of hand, cosmetic, and reconstructive surgery. His most recent publication in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal discusses an interesting case of pyoderma gangrenosum in a breast reduction patient, which he also presented at the Annual Meeting of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). He has actively been involved with multiple research projects starting in his undergraduate years at Northwestern University and continuing throughout residency and fellowships.

Dr. Goshtasby has received several research grants to pursue his projects and is the recipient of the Annual Resident Research Paper Award at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, OH, as well as the Outstanding Manuscript Award and All-Star Scholar Award for Research at York Hospital in York, PA. In 2008, Dr. Goshtasby completed a medical mission trip to Asuncion, Paraguay, where he was involved in several dozen complex cases to help correct cleft lip/palate deformities, burn contractures, microtia ear reconstructions, rhinoplasties for nasal deformity reconstruction, hand surgery for syndactyly and polydactyly, and other congenital deformities for the underprivileged and underserved local population in need.

Dr. Goshtasby is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, American College of Surgeons, and the Orange County Society of Plastic Surgeons, and is licensed to practice medicine in the states of California, Ohio, and New York. Dr. Goshtasby is also an active staff member and serves the community taking ER calls at several major Orange County hospitals, including the world-renowned Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach, Saddleback Memorial Medical Center in Laguna Hills, Mission Hospitals in Mission Viejo and Laguna Beach, Fountain Valley Regional Hospital, and Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center in Fountain Valley.

In addition, he aims to remain at the forefront of recent advancements in the field of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery by attending important national conferences and various continuing medical education (CME) programs in plastic surgery. Dr. Goshtasby has attended the Annual Meetings for the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS) and American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) for the past several years.

In his spare time, Dr. Goshtasby enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, exercising and playing tennis. He is fluent in English and Japanese.
