Large breasts can often cause pain, discomfort, or self-consciousness. A breast reduction can decrease the size of the breasts and improve their contour, often resulting in enhanced self-esteem and quality of life. Newport Plastic Surgery is led by Dr. Go, a triple-board certified plastic surgery physician in Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Irvine, and the nearby areas of California.
What is a Breast Reduction?
A breast reduction is a surgical technique that is used to reduce the size of the breasts. The appearance of large breasts can cause self-consciousness, and many women pursue a breast reduction to enhance their proportions and their figure. The weight of large breasts can also be an issue, often causing discomfort in the shoulders, neck, and back. Skin irritation and rashes may also develop underneath the breasts. In some cases, these problems can make it difficult for women to wear certain clothes or exercise and participate in similar activities. A breast reduction can increase a patient’s quality of life by adjusting the breasts to their desired size.
How Much Does a Breast Reduction Cost?
The cost of a breast reduction can vary depending on the extent of treatment necessary to deliver a patient’s desired results. When you schedule a consultation with Dr. Go of Newport Plastic Surgery, he will develop a personalized treatment plan based on your specific cosmetic goals. Once this treatment plan is developed, we will be able to provide you with the exact cost of treatment. We also offer financing through CareCredit® to make this and other treatments more affordable.
How is a Breast Reduction Performed?
The breast reduction procedure is performed under general anesthesia. During the surgery, incisions will be made around the areola and down to the inframamary fold. Additional incisions may be necessary, depending on the patient’s treatment goals. From these incisions, excess skin, fat, and breast tissue are removed both directly and with liposuction to produce the desired breast size. Once the desired amount of reduction is achieved, the incisions are sutured in a breast lift-type fashion in order to create an aesthetic contour to the breasts, and the treatment will be complete.
How is Recovery After a Breast Reduction?
After a breast reduction surgery, you may feel tired and sore for a few days. Most patients need to take at least a week off of work, but are typically able to return to normal light activities in less than two weeks. Any pain, swelling, and sensitivity will diminish over the next few weeks, and the scars will fade over the next several months.
