What is Facial Reconstruction?

Facial reconstruction uses advanced surgical techniques to restore function to the facial features while also restoring a normal appearance and improving a patient’s quality of life. Facial reconstruction techniques can be used to address birth defects, diseases, traumatic injuries, and more. In particular, Dr. Go is triple board-certified in plastic surgery and has performed hundreds of maxillofacial trauma reconstruction procedures which he considers to be one of his main areas of expertise that he enjoys doing.

How Much Does Facial Reconstruction Cost?

The cost of a facial reconstruction procedure can vary depending on the extent of treatment necessary to deliver optimal results. In some cases, your health insurance provider may cover a portion of the cost of treatment, especially if it was an emergency trauma situation.  When you schedule a consultation with Dr. Go of Newport Plastic Surgery, his staff will review your insurance coverage information to determine the circumstances.  However, please note that Dr. Go is out-of-network for all insurance networks and there are no guarantees that your insurance will cover the cost of treatment, which you will be responsible for.  We do offer competitive out-of-pocket rates for reconstructive procedures and also offer financing through CareCredit® to make this and other treatments more affordable.

What is Ear Reconstruction?

Ear reconstruction is considered one of the most difficult procedures to perform due to the intricacies of the human ear. Dr. Go of Newport Plastic Surgery is proud to offer this procedure, thanks to his reconstructive expertise. Whether the patient has suffered from an injury or developmental deformities, Dr. Go can provide a successful treatment. Ear reconstruction surgery requires multiple stages of treatment, each with brief hospital stays. The ear is reconstructed using rib cartilage, and is then inserted into a flap of skin. After healing for a few months, the reconstructed ear will be raised from the surface to match the natural position of the opposite ear. If ear reconstruction is being performed on both ears, they will be made to resemble a normal ear.

What is Involved in Facial Reconstruction?

Facial reconstruction can involve a wide range of surgical techniques, including skin grafts, bone grafts, or muscle grafts. The techniques used and the extent of surgery involved in your treatment will depend on the severity of the condition being treated. As a maxillofacial trauma surgeon taking emergency call at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, Dr. Go has significant experience dealing with traumatic facial fractures and laceration injuries.  Complex facial fractures, such as maxillary and orbital floor blowout fractures, are reconstructed using medical-grade titanium plates and screws, and broken jaws may also require temporary intermaxillary fixation wires for healing.  During your consultation, Dr. Go will explain what you can expect from your facial reconstruction procedure.

At Newport Plastic Surgery, Dr. Go takes pride in making maxillofacial trauma reconstruction one of his areas of expertise that he enjoys doing. He has performed hundreds of these procedures over the years and is confident in achieving his patients’ goals in the safest and most effective manner possible.

What is Recovery Like After Facial Reconstruction?

Like the unique circumstances surrounding your facial reconstruction surgery, your recovery will depend on the techniques used and the extent of treatment performed. Most facial reconstruction surgeries will require a brief hospital stay, followed by a period of downtime to allow the body to heal. Patients often have to take time off of work, exercise, and other normal activities to ensure a smooth recovery. Dr. Go will give you specific instructions regarding your recovery during your consultation.
