What is a Body Fat Transfer?
A natural fat transfer is a body contouring technique that involves removing extra fat with stem cells from one area of the body and using it to augment another. This is a popular treatment because it enables patients to sculpt one area of the body by eliminating fat, while synergistically naturally enhancing another area of the body that lacks volume. Natural fat transfer techniques are commonly used to enhance the face, breasts, hands, and buttocks. At Newport Plastic Surgery, we offer the following fat transfer procedures:
- Fat Transfer Breast
- Brazilian Butt Lift
- Facial Fat Transfer
- Fat Transfer Hands
- Fat Transfer and Injections in Irvine, CA
How Much Does a Fat Transfer Cost?
The cost of a fat transfer can vary depending on the extent of treatment necessary to deliver a patient’s desired results. When you schedule a consultation with Dr. Go of Newport Plastic Surgery, he will develop a personalized treatment plan based on your specific cosmetic goals. Once this treatment plan is developed, we will be able to provide you with the exact cost of treatment. We also offer financing through CareCredit® to make this and other treatments more affordable.
How is a Fat Transfer Performed?
The first step of a fat transfer procedure is harvesting redundant fat, which is done via liposuction. Fat can be taken from many areas of the body, including the abdomen, hips, or thighs. Once collected, the fat grafts and stem cells are isolated and purified so that it can be safely placed back into the body. The fat is delivered into the desired treatment area utilizing thin cannulas through a number of small access points. After the injections are performed, the treatment is complete.
How is Recovery After a Fat Transfer?
After a fat transfer, your recovery will depend on the recipient area as well as the area where fat was collected from. Most patients are able to return to normal light activities within 1-2 weeks, but it can take a few weeks to months for the newly injected fat cells to fully settle and ‘take’. During this time, it is important to take special care not to apply pressure directly to the treatment area. Not all of the fat grafts injected back into the body will integrate, so be aware that the size of the treatment area may fluctuate during recovery.
