If you have lost significant amounts of weight or have loose abdominal skin and fat concentrated around your midline, you may benefit from a tummy tuck procedure. Newport Plastic Surgery is proud to offer tummy tucks with Dr. Go, an elite plastic surgeon in Irvine, Costa Mesa, Newport Beach, and the surrounding areas of California.
What is a Tummy Tuck?
A tummy tuck, also known as an abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure designed to eliminate loose skin and extra fat in the abdomen, as well as tighten any weakened and lax abdominal muscles, known as ‘diastatis recti’. This is a common problem area for many, as it can be especially difficult to maintain a firm, toned abdomen as you get older. A tummy tuck can enhance muscle definition and produce a sculpted abdomen, improving the figure. Dr.Go has performed hundreds of tummy tucks and takes pride in making it one of his main areas of specialty that he enjoys doing.
For the ‘heavier’ patients who have excess fat as well as loose skin and are having difficulty toning their mid-section, Newport Plastic Surgery also offers an extended tummy tuck with liposculpture procedure (ie. lipoabdominoplasty), which is an advanced technique utilized by Dr.Go that combines the expertise of a traditional tummy tuck method with focused liposuction, which can lead to dramatic cosmetic improvements to the abdominal and flank regions. This can also be combined with a Mons pubis lift as indicated.
How Much Does a Tummy Tuck Cost?
The cost of a tummy tuck can vary depending on the extent of treatment necessary to deliver a patient’s desired results. When you schedule a consultation with Dr. Go of Newport Plastic Surgery, he will develop a personalized treatment plan based on your specific cosmetic goals. Once this treatment plan is developed, we will be able to provide you with the exact cost of treatment. We also offer financing through CareCredit® to make this and other treatments more affordable.
What is a Mini Tummy Tuck?
A mini tummy tuck is a less invasive tummy tuck procedure. It is an ideal treatment for patients who mainly only have a mild to moderate amount of loose skin and do not need a full tummy tuck to achieve their desired results. A mini tummy tuck will typically have less postoperative discomfort and a shorter recovery, and is best suited for patients with less skin and fat to remove.
Am I a Candidate for a Tummy Tuck?
If you have loose or sagging abdominal skin that is out of proportion to the rest of your body, have abdominal muscles that have separated or have become weakened, or have extra fat deposits around your mid-section that you are having difficulty getting rid of, you may be a candidate for a tummy tuck procedure. Dr. Go also recommends that you do not smoke and that you are not planning future pregnancies or significant weight loss in the future.
What is the Tummy Tuck Procedure Like?
Under general anesthesia, Dr. Go will first make a horizontal incision just above the pubic area. In most cases, an additional incision will be made around the belly button. Through these incisions, excess skin and fat is removed, and the muscle is tightened with a corset-type suture as needed. Additional liposuction may be necessary for the extended tummy tuck with liposculpture and/or mons pubis lift procedures. Then, the remaining skin is adjusted and a new belly button site is created to produce the desired results. Finally, the incisions are sutured and the treatment will be complete.
At Newport Plastic Surgery, Dr. Go takes pride in making tummy tucks one of his main areas of expertise that he enjoys doing. He has performed hundreds of these procedures over the years and is confident in achieving his patients’ goals in the safest and most effective manner possible.
What is Recovery Like After a Tummy Tuck?
The recovery time after a tummy tuck varies among individuals depending on the extent of the surgery and your physical condition. Generally, there will be some bruising and swelling that could last for a few weeks to couple months, but you should expect to return to your daily light activities one to three weeks after surgery. Patients can expect a similar recovery from a mini tummy tuck, but typically at an accelerated rate.
